2012 Philippines ALCU Games Hosted by Laguna

The provincial government of Laguna, through Laguna University, will host the Fourth Association of Local Colleges and Universities-Athletic Association Meet (ALCU GAMES, formerly ALCULYMPICS) on March 4-9, officials said.

Themed “Teamwork Makes the Dream Works,” the sports development activity is part of K#4 (Education, Culture, Youth & Sports) of Governor Jeorge “E.R.” Ejercito Estregan’s “K2 Kinse-Kumpleto Serbisyo Publiko Kontra Kahirapan at Gutom.”

Atty. Leonardo M. Ragaza Jr., Laguna provincial administrator, said the sports undertaking was initiated by PGL in line with the vision to make Laguna as the new sports capital of the Philippines.

Ragaza said the opening ceremony will be on March 4 that will start with a parade at the Provincial Capitol Compound and will end at RECS Sports Complex.

Around 1,500 athletes, men and women, from 23 out of the 36 ALCU members in the country will compete during the five-day sports event which includes athletics, basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, sepak-takraw, swimming, archery, chess, taekwondo, arnis, dance sport, cheerdance, and Mr. and Ms. ALCULYMPICS, he said.

Ragaza said the participating schools include Mabalacat University in Pampanga, Urdaneta City University in Pangasinan, University of Makati, Universidad de Manila, Tagoloan Community College in Misamis Oriental, Quirino Polytechnic College in Quirino province, Quezon City Polytechnic University, Valenzuela City Polytechnic University, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasay, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig;

Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina, Pamantasan ng Cabuyao, Laguna; Mandaue City College, Mandaue, Cebu; Laguna University, Sta. Cruz, Laguna; Dalubhasaan ng Lungsod ng San Pablo, Laguna; City College of Calapan, Oriehntal Mindoro; Bulacan Polytechnic College, Binalatogan City College, Bago City College, Negros Occidental; Gordon College, Olongapo City; and Taguig City University, Taguig, Metro Manila.
