Amending the Philippine Constitution?

North Cotabato Governor Manny Piñol said that many Local Government Officials coming from different political subdivisions in Mindanao are in favor of people’s initiative as a mode in the amending the Constitution.

Gov. Piñol cited that the mode of people’s initiative means that charter change comes from the people themselves.

The North Cotabato local chief executive said that many people are now tired of the endless bickering between the House of Representatives and of the Senate.

The Senate had voice out its strong objection to the Charter change, which proposes a unicameral legislature instead of the present bicameral set-up. Under the proposal, which was submitted by the Constitutional Commission, the Senate will give way for a unicameral parliamentary set-up of government.

Agusan del Sur Governor Edward Plaza bared that those who resist the people’s initiative have vested interest but said that Cha-cha cannot be postponed anymore.
