Classroom fashioned with modern audio visual (A/V) equipment
Kindergarten students, 5 years old and below, will have a new classroom fashioned with modern audio visual (A/V) equipment and other educational tools in a rolling classroom dubbed as “Kindergarten on Wheels.”
Education Secretary Armin Luistro said that with the program, it could help augment classroom backlog by 2013.
Bagong Henerasyon Rep. Bernadette Herrera-Dy concurred, saying among the problems faced by the education sector was lack of funding, as well as lack of space for new school buildings.
“The number of pre-school enrollees is expected to nearly triple this year as compared to the number of pupils 10 years ago. We would be needing more classrooms by then,” she said adding there are about 66,000 classroom shortage in the whole archipelago.
The launch of Kindergarten on Wheels was being done on the eve of the 70th birth anniversary of former President Cory Aquino, the mother of President Benigno Aquino III.
Herrera-Dy said it was done so because Cory left a lasting legacy of caring for children’s education and welfare.
The mobile classrooms were launched at the President Corazon Aquino Elementary School in Batasan, Quezon City.
The project is being done with Partylist Bagong Henerasyon through a memorandum of agreement with the Department of Education and the Quezon City government.
Luistro said the project was inline with agency’s quest for solutions to accommodate kindergarten in public schools as part of the government’s K+12 basic education reforms by the year 2016.
