Death Toll of Comval Landslide in the Philippines
Government rescue workers on Monday recovered four more bodies, bringing to 36 the number of dead people as search and retrieval operations continue in a landslide that happened last week in Pantukan, Compostela Valley, the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) said.
Of the four bodies recovered, two have been identified as Garnado Ofton and Paquito Piayo. The other two have not been named.
A total of 16 persons have been rescued, five of them still in the hospital.
There are about 40 people still to be traced.
NDRRMC executive director Benito Ramos said fewer rescuers were seen on Monday compared to the last three days of search and rescue operations.
He also said at least four persons initially reported missing in last week’s landslide that buried a gold panning area in Compostela Valley were found alive.
They were identified as Santos Saraum Sr., 45; Santos Saraum Jr., 18; a certain “Kambal,” 21; and Santos Abainza III, 16.
