Dengue Hits Iloilo, Philippines Anew
Village heads and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairmen have been instructed by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to lead in the conduct of clean up drives in response to the proliferation of dengue hemorrhagic fever in this city.
DILG city director, Atty. Ferdinand L. Panes “strongly advised” the strict observance of the Aksyon Barangay Kontra Dengue (ABKD), an inter-agency cooperation, to intensify fight against dengue outbreak, as mandated by DILG memorandum circular 16, series of 2012.
“There have been reports of proliferation of dengue H-fever in several barangays in the city, which if not attended to might result in deaths of the victims. In order to address this looming problem, it is a must for all barangays in the city to conduct regular clean up drives and other related activities,” Panes said.
Among other measures, the circular pointed out the need to set up Ovicidal-Larvicida Traps (OL Traps) to help arrest the population of dengue-causing mosquitoes.
Also, barangay health teams, volunteers and residents must be mobilized to help in the clean up drive, it said.
Meanwhile, acting mayor Jose Espinosa III said that all health centers in the various district of the city have been alerted to give utmost attention to possible dengue patients. There are express lane for suspected dengue cases, he said.
