Diaz Hermanos landholdings in Bagtic, Mabinay, Negros Oriental

Heightened security is in place as the Department of Agrarian Reform in Negros Oriental schedules another installation ceremony for the 145 farmer beneficiaries (FBs) of the Diaz Hermanos landholdings in Bagtic, Mabinay town in Negros Oriental anytime next week.

This came in the wake of a bloody confrontation between the FBs and the petitioners last week. The presence of guns, bolos and firearms was reported during the incident which left one dead and another injured.

Provincial Agrarian Reform Officer (PARO) Stephen Leonidas is waiting for the approval of their request for police assistance from the Philippine National Police in Region 7.

Coordination meetings have been conducted between the DAR provincial office, the PNP and the 302nd Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army, headed by brigade commander Col. Francisco Patrimonio, following the resistance offered by the petitioners who are actually tilling the land.

PNP provincial director Sr. Supt. Edward Carranza confirms receipt of the request for police assistance on Monday and awaits the approval of the regional PNP director before sending a contingent from the Regional Public Safety Company during the installation rites.
