DILG Philippines Wants Barangays to Fight Dengue

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) mobilized all barangays to lead in the implementation of the “Aksyon Barangay Kontra Dengue” (ABKD) through regular clean-up activities in each concerned community.

In Southern Leyte, these activities are monitored quarterly by local government units (LGUs), Loren Abrau-Aniciete, DILG Information Officer designate said. She said that ‘cleaning up is a year-long monitored activity,” referring to the conduct of search and destroy operations, enforcement of environmental sanitation activities, and massive information drive at the local level.

The ABKD is the government’s response to intensify the fight against dengue outbreak in order to reduce dengue cases and dengue transmission, Aniciete added. She quoted DILG secretary Jesse M. Robredo in his memorandum, saying that “all barangays should spearhead and intensify the conduct of a clean-up drive through the mobilization of volunteers, residents and the Barangay Health Teams, including Barangay Tanods.” She disclosed that the DILG is aiming for a zero-dengue incidence not only here in the locality but throughout the country.
