Donate Blood in Negros Oriental
The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) is now appealing to other local government units in Negros Oriental that were not affected by tropical storm Sendong to organize bloodletting activities in their localities.
Provincial PRC Administrator Louella Bael said the local chapter is now experiencing severe shortage in blood supply. She said they have zero blood supply since the middle of December 2011 after the tropical storm affected at least 10 local government units in Negros Oriental.
At present, they only have a few bags of type AB+ blood.
Bael admitted that the months of December and January are considered lean months for blood supply because of the holiday season. But she said it was surprising that they have zero blood supply except for type AB+ since December.
She said there have been several requests for blood but they cannot serve the requests because the blood reserve is given only to Red Cross donors.
Bael also believes that the scarcity in blood supply is because of the after-effects of “Sendong” where majority of the residents in Dumaguete and other neighboring towns were affected.
The municipality of Valencia, one of the champion towns in bloodletting activity, was also greatly devastated by massive flooding.
Valencia Mayor Enrique Gonzalez said he will continue the bloodletting on February 14 as a regular activity of the town. He said there are other areas in the town that were not affected by flood and can still donate blood.
