Fire in Pasay City, Philippines – P5 Million Damage

Some P5 million worth of property were lost and at least 300 stalls were razed in an 8-hour fire on Tuesday night that hit the South Terminal Commercial Center in Pasay City.

According to Arson Investigator F/Insp. Algie Mollanida, the fire started at around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday night.

Mollanida said the fire started from one of stall at the commercial center that quickly spread to contiguous stalls selling mostly textile and ready-to-wear (RTW) items.

Before the outbreak of the fire, explosions were reportedly heard explosions inside the commercial center that triggered the fire.

Pasay city F/Chief Insp. Douglas Guiyab admitted that they were having difficulty to put out the fire because the road in Sto Nino along Taft Avenue is too narrow which is also occupied by sidewalk vendors.

But no one was reported injured in the fire that was put out at 4:39 a.m on Wednesday.

Insp. Jolly Soriano of Police Community Precinct (PCP) 6 arrested 10 people for looting garments during the fire.

Meanwhile, the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 1 resumed normal operation on Wednesday after suspension of the Libertad station to Baclaran station due to the fire.
