Flashflood in Negros Occidental, Philippines
The recent flashflood in eight municipalities and cities in Negros Occidental has left some P12.8 million worth of damages to agriculture and fishery sectors in the province.
Initial assessment made by the Provincial Agriculture’s Office in Negros Occidental showed that the flashflood damaged some 79 hectares of rice lands and 265 hectares of fishponds.
In agricultural crops, the damage reached P1.8 million while P11 million to fishery products.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) reported two casualties due to flashflood.
The flood also damaged 669 houses, 49 of which had been totally destroyed and the remaining 620 houses were partially damaged.
The flood displaced more than 3,000 families that were forced to evacuate and took temporary shelters in various designated evacuation centers but they gradually returned to their respective houses after the flood waters subsided.
