Hostage in Dumaguete City, Philippines

A “drunken” man who allegedly took hostage a cousin recently for a still undetermined reason was shot by the police after he allegedly failed to heed negotiations to surrender peacefully to authorities.

The suspect, identified as a certain Allen Kinikito Carbas, 20, a resident of Purok Sto. Niño in the outskirts village of Cadawinonan, who sustained a gunshot wound on his forearm, is now out of danger after being treated at a local hospital.

Carbas is now detained as police prepare to charge him with Alarm and Scandal and Violation of B.P Blg. 6, said Dumaguete police chief, Supt. Crisaleo Tolentino.

According to Tolentino, Carbas was allegedly intoxicated and causing trouble in the neighborhood when relatives tried to pacify him around 10:30 p.m. Thursday.
