Iloilo Plants One Million Trees Every Year

The Iloilo provincial government will plant another one million trees under the Action for Regreening and Transformation (ART) program second year implementation in the component city of Passi on July 14, 2012.

Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. said that inspired by the successful launching of the ART program last year, the provincial government will embark again this year another round of tree planting activity in the riverbanks of Barangays Agtambo, Bayan and Sarapan in Passi City.

The tree planting activity this year will be held for two phases – the first phase on July 14 and the second phase in September.

Gov. Defensor said that the seedlings will come from the provincial nursery and the five district nurseries. There are also nurseries established in the schools in the province.

The governor said that the survival rate of the more than one million trees planted under the ART last year is 65 percent.
