Maribojoc Bohol Athletic Meet

The local government unit of Maribojoc Bohol and its district schools division hosted Unit 1-C’s sub-congressional district athletics meet in Barangay Anislag last August 29.

The one-day athletics meet commenced with an opening program held at the Maribojoc Central Elementary School Sports Complex. Participating municipalities and district schools included Antequera, Balilihan, Catigbian, Cortes, and the host municipality.

Maribojoc Mayor Leoncio Evasco Jr., together with Acting Vice-Mayor Fructuoso Redulla Jr., Mayor Cecilia Rebosura of Antequera, and Municipal Councilor Bartolome Bastes of Balilihan were there to show support.

Unit 1-C’s schools district supervisors and coordinating principals also graced the affair.

The program hosted by Maribojoc Councilor Cecilia Autentico, started with a meaningful invocation given by Rev. Fr. Warren Abarquez, parish priest of the Holy Cross Parish.

Lourdes Lumantas, SIC-Punta Cruz Elementary School, led the singing of the hymns and Maribojoc District Coordinating Principal Milueda Escabarte gave the words of welcome.

Escabarte applauded all athletes, coaches, members of the working committees, and guests for giving importance to the athletics meet, as sports development for the youth is a national priority.

Barangay Kagawad Artemio Campos of San Vicente gave a message, on behalf of Punong Barangay Pedro Jaminal, while Dr. Dedicacion Saguran, the principal of the Santa Cruz Elementary School, presented the participating delegations.

Mayor Evasco led the raising of the Unit 1-C Flag assisted by Acting Vice-Mayor Redulla, while delegation heads took charged in the raising of their respective delegation flags.

Acting Vice-Mayor Redulla, in his message, gave emphasis on the spirit of sportsmanship among athletes, coaches, and the rest of the members of the delegation.

He said winning was not important, what mattered was how each team member imbibe the values and discipline of an athlete.

The town’s own CVIRAA volleyball athlete Ryan Buca initiated the lighting of the torch and the Unit 1-C friendship urn, and Busao National High School athlete Jason Pilongo delivered the oath of amateurism.

Balilihan District High School principal Serapia Jala represented the chairperson of the Bohol Task Force on School Sports, Dr. Clemen Jala.

Gudito Alcala gave the oath of officiating officials and Maribojoc Community Sports Coordinator Florante Evasco declared the opening of the 2009 Unit 1-C Sub-congressional District Athletic Meet.

Thirteen events were played last August 29, with athletes representing Unit 1-C Sub-congressional District Athletics Association, namely: athletics, badminton, baseball/softball, basketball, chess, dance sports, football, sipa/sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, and volleyball.

The athletic meet had four levels: the Elementary Level (Boys), Elementary Level (Girls), Secondary Level (Boys) and Secondary Level (Girls).  Playing venues included the Maribojoc Central Elementary School Sports Complex, Lincod Elementary School, Santa Cruz Elementary School, Maribojoc Public Market, and the Maribojoc Cultural and Sports Center.

The awarding ceremony was held later in the evening. The delegation from Catigbian won a total of 69 gold medals, 29 silver medals, 23 bronze medals and 2 fourth places.

Maribojoc athletes followed suit with 41 gold, 28 silver medals, 15 bronze medals, and one 4th place.

Balilihan athletes triumphed with 25 gold medals, 30 silver medals, 26 bronze medals, and two 4th places.

Cortes delegation had 17 gold medals, 17 silver medals, and 11 bronze medals, while Antequera came in with 12 gold medals, 10 silver medals, 11 bronze medals, and one 4th place.  (amj)
