Noynoy Aquino Forgets and Remembers Flood Victims
Local officials as well as residents in the province on Wednesday warmly welcomed President Benigno Simeon Aquino III who arrived here to personally see and assess the extent of damages brought by the two recent typhoons.
After the Chief Executive’s visit to Tarlac, he immediately proceeded to this city to inspect the proposed Mt. Pinatubo Hazard Urgent Mitigation Project Phase 3-B (PHUMP 3-B) in Barangay San Felipe, a flood control project that serves as a line of defense for the City of San Fernando and nearby towns against flooding.
The President was briefed by local officials led by Governor Lilia Pineda, on the devastation wrought by typhoons “Pedring” and “Quiel” in the province.
Pineda said that President Aquino has assured full support to all the efforts that would mitigate flooding in the province, particularly the low-lying areas that remained flooded.
At present, seven towns in the province are still under floodwater, affecting some 35,000 families.
President Aquino has promised full support to whatever solutions that would address the massive flooding in the province, the governor said.
