Petron vs Talk n Text PBA Game 2012

He did it before, he did it again and he might as well keep on boosting Talk N Text’s rocket ship to the semis and, if lucky enough, to the finals of the Philippine Cup.

It’s just that small but smart Jimmy Alapag refuses to let his Talk N Text team go down without a fight.

The speedy fireball Alapag showed what he can do by helping the Tropang Texters notch back-to-back wins that kept them alive in their PBA Philippine Cup semifinals duel with Petron Blaze and earned for himself the Accel-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week honors for the period January 9 to 15.

The reigning Most Valuable Player (MVP) shone the brightest in those back-to-back wins that enabled the defending champion to tie the best-of-seven series at 3-all, force a deciding game on Wednesday and possibly become only the third team in league history to complete a comeback from a 1-3 deficit.

“This is still our championship and it’s ours until somebody takes it away,” said Alapag.

The spitfirish guard put those words into more concrete form by pouring in 29 points while adding 10 assists and seven rebounds in leading T N T to a 111-108 win in Game 6 last Sunday.

That performance came on the heels of his triple in the last 44 seconds of Game 5 just two days before, a shot that proved crucial in helping the Texters escape with a 93-91 win.

Foremost among those who admired those deeds was TnT coach Chot Reyes. “The last two games exemplify his value,” said Reyes of his team captain. “In Game 5 he barely scored (five points) yet provided spiritual leadership and stability. But when needed, he scored and assisted, as in Game 6.”
