Fresh from her London trip where she attended the worldwide gathering of Plan International London as the only youth representative, Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) national president Jane Censoria Cajes is busy spearheading the forthcoming SK National Congress on October 28-30 at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu City.
This year’s theme is “SK: Transform leadership, transpire actions and transcend competence”.
More than 1,000 SK delegates from all over the country will convene in Cebu for two nights and three days to share opportunities and exchange ideas with those from neighboring provinces, build friendship and create networks for peace.
“This is a great opportunity of our youth leaders to discuss youth issues and concerns,” according to Cajes. Who is now in Cebu to engineer the plans for the activity.
Invited speakers to talk on several issues are Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, Senators Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III and Francis “Chiz” Escudero, Reps. Edcel Lagman (1st District, Albay), Raul Del Mar (1st District, Cebu City) and Teofisto Guingona Jr. (2nd District, Bukidnon); and Butch Jimenez, vice president for Corporate Affairs of the Philippine Long Distance Telecom (PLDT).
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has confirmed her attendance on the 30th.
Based on the 2001 Katipunan ng Kabataan and SK Constitution and By-laws under Article XII, meetings and quorum, section 7 (paragraph 1), “An SK national Congress shall be called every year for the purpose of a comprehensive Consultation of the SK issues and concerns. For this purpose the Congress shall be composed of all elected SK officials from the barangay level to the national level. The presence of at least 300 official delegates shall constitute a quorum during said congress.”
This year’s SK National Congress aims to provide all the SK officials the venue to convey all their issues and concerns governing their jurisdiction as SK officials, sharply demonstrate the essence of solidarity as one organization aiming for the achievement of a common goal, accurately give the chance to be informed of the existing policies, programs and projects of the government deliberately intended for the youth, equally acquaint them with the other members of the SK as an organization and as one family and officially launch different programs and projects of the SK national federation. – Sunday Post
