Philippines Geohazards mapping and recommendation of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)
Mayor Celso Lobregat is meeting on Thursday with barangay officials to discuss issues on flashfloods, landslides and other possible environmental hazards in accordance with the latest geohazards mapping and recommendation of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
Lobregat has invited the chairmen of the 34 barangays that were identified by the Mines and Geo-Sciences Bureau (MGB) of the DENR as prone to flashfloods, landslides and other geohazards, together with other officials from government agencies and law enforcers.
“It will be an information-sharing meeting and policy-setting. We will present the findings and decide what steps to take,” Lobregat said.
This is to prevent untold effects of any environmental hazards that might befall on the city,” he added.
In 2007, the city’s coastal barangays had been severely affected by a storm surge, while other villages had been submerged by flood waters during the past typhoons.
The geohazards map and studies conducted by DENR had suggested that this city’s coastlines and shorelines should be cleared of houses and other structures, including waterways and drainage systems.
