Philippines SK Election 2013

The Cebu City Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) “strongly supports” the proposal of some lawmakers seeking to postpone the synchronized Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) and barangay elections slated next year.

ABC president Michael Ralota said most, if not all, of the city’s village officials want the deferment of the barangay elections so they can concentrate on completing their unfinished projects.

”Elections are very expensive, which is why, if possible, it should be postponed since there will also be local elections next year,” Ralota said.

He said postponing the barangay elections by a year or two will help save election expenses both for the candidates and the government.

Rep. Cutie del Mar (Cebu City, north district) is reportedly planning to file a bill that seeks the deferment of the SK and barangay polls to 2014.

Ralota, who is now on his third and last term as barangay captain of T. Padilla, explained that the three-year term of barangay officials is too short.

He said he will initiate a signature campaign among all village officials in the city who are in favor of the deferment of the elections.
