A good number of couples in the municipalities of Almeria and Kawayan who have been living-in for the past several years will have their union legalized as they say “I do” during the National Statistics Office (NSO)-initiated mass wedding in the morning of February 14 to be held in their respective municipal hall.

In an interview with Rosemarie Lumbre, Provincial Director of the NSO here, she said that the mass wedding arrangements and document preparation will be facilitated by the local civil registrars in the concerned municipalities while the wedding ceremony will be solemnized by the municipal mayor.

She added that the mass wedding to be conducted is one of the highlights of the Civil Registration Month celebration in February this year.

Furthermore, she said that their preparations for the upcoming celebration of the civil registration month are now in high gear as they join with the rest of the provinces nationwide in the observance of the occasion.

Part of the activities of the monthlong celebration is the two-day civil registration training scheduled on February 15 and 16, 2007 to be held at Marvin’s Place in Naval, Biliran.

Said training will be attended by the barangay chairmen and barangay secretaries provincewide most specifically those who have not attended yet the same training conducted by NSO-Biliran in July last year.

She bared that at least 80 participants are expected in attendance which will be divided into two batches. The first batch of 40 participants will attend the training on February 15 while the other 40 participants will have their training on the second day of the two-day training schedule which is on February 16.

The training, according to Ms. Lumbre, is expected to enhance the knowledge of the participants about civil registration to be able to learn the exact procedures of data gathering in relation to civil registration.
