Saudi Arabia Stops Hiring Filipino Maid Helper

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) regional office here is preparing for the aftermath of the so-called “Saudization” of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

OWWA Region 6 Director Samuel Madrid said the Saudization policy to be implemented in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia aims to prioritize Saudi nationals in terms of job opportunities in their own country against their foreign counterparts like overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

The OWWA-6 Director said the Philippine government will do everything to help OFWs that will be adversely affected by proposed policy to be implemented in that country.

Madrid said the government is presently giving emphasis in training OFWs to give them additional knowledge to be more effective in their respective jobs outside of the country.

The OWWA, he said, is planning to embark on the training of OFWs to make them competitive in their respective endeavors and convince foreign employers to hire OFWs anew.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia government has formally announced that they would no longer issue visa to workers coming from Indonesia and Philippines in response to the new guidelines of the two Asian countries to their long demand of giving good protection to overseas workers in Saudi Arabia.
