Typhoon Quinta Moving Near Luzon Philippines
Tropical depression ‘Quinta’ continues to move westward and is expected to be near Luzon on Friday after leaving several passengers stranded in Western Visayas as it entered the country early Thursday.
The Philippine Coast Guard barred seagoing vessels from traveling.
As of 5 p.m. Thursday, Quinta was spotted in the vicinity of Roxas City, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
It moves west northwest at 22 kilometers per hour with winds of 55 kph near the center.
Signal number 1 is hoisted over Occidental Mindoro Oriental Mindoro, Northern Palawan, Coron, Cuyo Island, Masbate, Romblon, Marinduque, Batangas, Biliran, Northern Negros, Iloilo, Aklan, Capiz, Antique and Guimaras Island.
The PCG, as early as Thursday morning, ordered halting of trips of fast crafts and ships, particularly those plying routes between Iloilo and Guimaras, as many areas there had been placed under signal No. 1.
Quinta is expected to be about 300 kms West Northwest of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro on Friday morning and 820 kms West Northwest of San Jose, Occidental Mindoro or 670 kms West of Iba, Zambales by Saturday morning.
