UAAP La Salle vs Adamson

By Eddie G. Alinea

Something good is happening in the on-going UAAP baseball tournament. Good for the sport of baseball, that is.

This is because Ateneo and La Salle, the varsity league’s life and blood owing to their decades-long rivalry in basketball could extend their protracted war on the hard court to the diamond-shaped field and, by bringing fans back, effect a truly renaissance of the sport that, many years ago, was the Filipinos’ favorite.

The Blue Eagles of Katipunan Road and the Green Archers of Taft Avenue, erstwhile favorite whipping boys in the sport, you see, are currently locked in a three-team logjam at the top of the six-team standing and are expected to dispute the championship, the only second time they would since abandoning the rival NCAA in the 70s and 80s, respectively.

The arch-enemies contested the UAAP baseball crown for the first and only time during the 2002-2003 season with the Archers prevailing for their only title victory reason why the Eagles are aching to avenge their frustration and win this year.

Unless the similarly rejuvenated National University Bulldogs, who own a piece of leadership, or any between defending champion Santo Tomas or host Adamson intervene and deny either or both of a place in the winner-take-all title playoff.
