Weather Climate in Zamboanga, Philippines
The city government has alerted the local police force and barangay officials to monitor the situation in the riverbanks and low-lying areas of the city following the continuous heavy downpour Tuesday.
City Administrator Antonio Ordendain Jr. said the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council members has coordinated with the Zamboanga City Water District to monitor the water level at its filtration plant in Pasonanca.
Orendain presided an emergency meeting today at the Hall conference room following the onset of rains early this morning until the evening.
Maribel Enriquez of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAG-ASA), Zamboanga Station explained that the heavy rains which started at about 10 a.m. was spawned by the tail-end of a cold front.
She warned that the rains will continue for three or more days.
The initial rains Tuesday flooded low lying areas in the city proper and prompted City Hall officials to alert concerned citizens, especially those living on the riverbanks and low-lying areas against possible flash floods and landslides.
As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, the water level at the filtration plant was normal.
