What’s New on Tokyo Stock Market?

Tokyo stocks rebounded from a three-day losing streak on the last trading day of 2011 Friday but the key Nikkei index’s year-closing level was the lowest since 1982, affected by the yen’s rise, the March disaster and Thai floods.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 56.46 points, or 0.67 percent, from Thursday at 8,455.35 and lost around 17 percent for the year 2011. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 6.49 points, or 0.90 percent, higher at 728.61, falling around 19 percent on the year.

Almost all the sectors on the TSE gained, led by the air transport, electricity and gas, and metal products sectors. The securities sector was the sole loser.
